After reading the article in The Telegraph, dated 20 March 2015: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11485342/Hundreds-charged-in-paedophile-inquiry.html ; The National Crime Agency has disclosed the arrest of more than 260 suspects charged in the long run investigation into online paedophiles, codenamed operation Notarise. The National Crime Agency also said that it has charged more than 260 suspects since the beginning of an operation targeting people accessing child abuse images online whom include: civil servants, police staff and teachers. The Agency said that 47 of those charged were employed in "positions of trust" or voluntary roles with access to children. Some of the people facing charges are; 16 teachers or school staff involved in the scandal, police service employee, a children's entertainer, a former ex-UKBA officer, a retired magistrate, a GP, 6 people in government positions, 3 civil servants, crime commissioner, 2 school caretakers and 2 driving instructors. A doctor working in the paediatrics, Raza Laskar, 32 was arrested by operation Notarise last year where he pleaded guilty to a number of charges including sexual activity with a child. The shadow secretary, Yvette Cooper MP, said: "This is a tiny portion of the cases the NCA are aware of and shows, once again, online child abuse is just not being given the focus, time and resource needed." He added; "The NCA has details of at least 20,000 people who have accessed child abuse images, yet they arrested less than 1,000 and today we learn only 260 people are being charged – just 1 per cent of the 20,000." National Crime Agency Director General Keith Bristow acknowledged that the volume of work related to online paedophilia cases placed a strain on investigators.
